Citi Projects Stablecoin Market to Reach Up to $4 Trillion by 2030
The global stablecoin market is accelerating beyond expectations, with issuance volumes surging from $200 billion in early 2025 to $280 billion this week. Citi's revised forecast now predicts $1.9 trillion in base-case issuance by 2030—or $4 trillion in a bullish scenario, up from prior estimates of $1.6 trillion and $3.7 trillion respectively.
At fiat-like velocity, stablecoins could facilitate $100 trillion in annual transactions by decade's end, doubling under optimal conditions. The bank likens this trajectory to blockchain's "ChatGPT moment," fueled by digital-native commerce. Yet traditional finance isn't ceding ground: tokenized bank deposits may exceed $100 trillion in turnover as institutions prioritize regulated frameworks and instant settlement.
